It is important for you to know that I am not a “passive” therapist. A former client described me, and I think somewhat accurately, as “A cross between a golden retriever and a pit bull.” I have an endless amount of compassion for the pain that life can bring and a tremendous amount of respect for the courage that it takes to look honestly at ourselves. But I will not simply sit and nod occasionally while you tip toe around the crucial issues. I think that you can get your neighbor to do that for free and you don’t need to be paying me to fill that role.
I see my job as being a catalyst….someone to speed along the process….and so you will find me to be very straight forward and direct in our therapy sessions. I am a strong believer in rapid and effective therapy. I will sometimes suggest that we include clinical hypnosis in our work together in order to move things along even more quickly, but that choice will ultimately be yours.
I provide individual counseling for a wide variety of issues. Perhaps it is easiest to tell you what areas I do not specialize in. I do not work with recovery from alcohol addiction or other drug abuse problems, except for nicotine. There are other therapists in the valley who specialize in these areas and I would encourage you to seek them out.
A great deal of my work has been with adults who were abused as children. Sexual, physical, and emotional abuse in childhood can greatly limit the degree to which one can function fully and find fulfilling relationships. The journey to wholeness without help can be a little like trying to take out your own appendix. It's one of those areas where professional assistance is almost always a necessary part of the healing process.
Low self-esteem, depression, panic attacks, poor relationship choices, co-dependent behavior, phobias, and eating disorders, including anorexia, bulimia and excessive weight gain are just some of the common problems I can help you with.
Professional fees are as follows:
Initial Session $110
Subsequent Sessions are $95.
I do not contract with insurance companies and would be considered an out-of-network provider. You can check with your company regarding possible benefits. Tell them that you want to see “Rick Boyes, Licensed Professional Counselor.” I will provide you with a receipt for you to submit your own claim form. Payment in full is due at the time of service. If you are seeking services through an employer's EAP program and you don't find me on that group's particular list of providers, just tell them who you want to see and they will typically approve services since I am a Licensed Counselor.
I look forward to meeting you.
